Our Work
We advocate and campaign for the Rights of Nature. We do this through the use of soft power to help evolve the governance of organisations; by conducting research on cutting-edge Nature-related legal concepts; and through lobbying or policy work at the local, national, and international level.
Bringing Nature into business, organisational, and educational settings to shift hearts, minds, and dialogues.
We work with organisations across all sectors to assist them in bringing the voice of Nature into their governance structures.
We offer coaching and guidance to businesses and individuals interested in incorporating Nature into their governance structures, becoming a Nature director or trustee, or who simply want to learn more about the Rights of Nature.
Our team is available for panel talks, keynote speeches and events, and media interviews. Please contact us here to discuss booking our team for your next event.
We produce reports and publications on the work we are doing to inform others. We have a number of toolkits available to assist others to do this work.
'Rights of Nature' proposes that Nature, including ecosystems and species, should have legal rights and the ability to act in the legal system (via human representatives). This perspective is rooted in an ecocentric philosophy that acknowledges humans as one interconnected component of a vast ecological network, recognising the intrinsic value of the non-human world beyond just its utility to humans. Further, it fosters awareness that human health and wellbeing is entirely dependent upon the health and wellbeing of the rest of Nature.
Rights of Nature underpins the work that we do:
It forms our basic orientation with regards to Nature and helps us to understand our place in the world.
It helps us conduct research on topics relating to the Rights of Nature and keeps us involved in advocacy to further the understanding and acceptance of Rights of Nature in the UK.
It emboldens us to offer support to groups, organisations, and campaigns looking to realise and defend the Rights of Nature.
We work with organisations who want to ensure their activities are aligned with the interests of the natural world. We support them to change internal governance structures and embed the voice of Nature into their organisations. We were the main legal architects, alongside the Earth Law Centre, to appoint a Nature Director to the board of Faith in Nature. For the first time in human history, Nature now has a voice and vote in human-made systems and can begin to seriously advocate for itself.
Nature on the Board has evolved into one of a number of Nature-positive interventions we can explore with you or your organisation, such as:
